I knew I didn't like it, but I didn't know why until you wrote up your analysis.

I know they wanted to do away with "groups" but they are still there... just almost impossible to find. I need to go to my own profile, click info, and then scroll down to my groups. "Groups" is not one of the options for customizing my page.

I totally agree Deb! At first, I thought the changes were only on the home page-and other than the annoying "hid an Easter Egg" dumping that you talked about didn't really mind the changes. But I'm starting to see more of the Profile changes and information scrambling. It is much more frustrating!

I saw the authorities use these to great effect in Alaska.
http://www.bearsmart.com/backcountryManners/Deterrents.html
The rationale is guns and spray hurt the animal, possibly inducing some to defend themselves.
These just make them run from scary ball of fire.

Yes, that's a park policy. When you get your plans put together more, you can probably get someone from one of the NCTA chapters to help you spot your car, even with dogs. Let me know.

I need to bookmark your blog. I forgot to last time I was here.

Yeh, I am beginning to see the controversy as I read more at the Yahoo groups... sounds like it is a hot topic. I can see both sides, but my personal opinion is against bikes, based on unpleasant experiences while hiking in Yankee Springs and Fort Custer.

Hey that's great about dogs! I was going on our experience in Pictured Rocks, but perhaps that was a park policy more than a trail policy. Thanks for the info!

Dogs are allowed almost everywhere on the NCT. Pictured Rocks in the UP, Copper Falls SP in Wisconsin, and the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek are closed to dogs... maybe another place or two. Not sure where you got your info.

Oh, and PS about geocaching, letterboxing. Same deal- the land owner gets to choose. So call the MNF to get the exact rules. I know they don't allow anything to be buried, but I think it's ok to place them. Again, though, don't take my word for it.

I think maybe you don't fully understand what the NCTA can and can not do. The NCTA is adamant about the vision for hikers only. However, the NCTA has no power other than persuasion to make the Forest Service or any other landowner follow that vision. The Manistee NF, and the entire Michigan DNR simply refuse to make the trail across their lands hiking only. Corridor management, which would allow "us" to decide on allowed uses is so far in the future I can't even quite imagine it.

But I'm really glad I found your blog!
