Little Bits of Ikea Lust

February 26, 2008

On Tuesday evenings my grandson comes to our house for a few hours while his parents are at school. He anticipates this all week, not because he adores his grandparents, rather because he looks forward to playing the X-box. He’s pretty absorbed in his games, yet I feel as though I must sit here with him, so I usually save up my catalogs and magazines for browsing while he’s maneuvering Sponge Bob and Spider Man through mazes and across rooftops. I didn’t really have anything that caught my attention tonight so instead I’ve been sitting here with my laptop browsing the Ikea site. There isn’t much there that I couldn’t find a place for, but here are a few of my favorite needful things…

Unfortunately the majority of these items are not available online and the closest Ikea stores are each about 3 hours away — one near Detroit, one near Chicago. Oh well, a girl can dream every once in a while I guess.

Hi, this isn’t related to your latest post, but I just wanted to tell you someone really appreciates your photos of Camp Miniwanca! I usually go somewhere with my son on weekend days, but today I just felt like staying home and chilling out. Googled “Camp Miniwanca” and I think your flickr site was on the first page of hits.

I got a scholarship to attend the NLC there in 1981 and liked it so much I returned the following summer to work all summer long in the kitchen, as well as finish up the NLC. (That was the year it changed from needing three “summers” to two in order to “graduate”. Believe it has changed to just one time in attendance now?)

It was hard to leave my friends the summer between HS graduation and going off to college… but it was probably my favorite summer of my life! At that time, the staff (mostly college kids and a few high school kids) had one of the two closest buildings to Lake Michigan as its dorm. I think that is it in one of your photos. Anyway, I walked on that beach many a morning and evening, ran it a few times, too. Played tennis at the courts just about every day. Got the best tan of my life. Made a really good friend on the summer staff who I might have exchanged a couple letters with and now can’t even think of his last name, LOL. Sorry for rambling on, but I am glad I found a way back from your flickr page to a place where I could thank you for the great pics! I may look into sending my son there for the kids camp someday. I know he’d love it there.

Haha. Just saw the time stamp and realized I hadn’t mentioned I live in Japan! It’s about 5:30 p.m. here now and the son is watching Dragonballz. :) Have a great weekend!
