January 29, 2008
I don’t know why I do this every year… I hit the New Year with this burst of enthusiasm that finds me committing to swaps with reckless abandon. I suppose it is somehow connected to the whole resolution thing… good intentions… but I always end up kicking myself as due dates begin to creep up on me. One of the swaps I’ve committed to is an ATC swap at the Carving Consortium. This is a monthly swap (yes, every month for the first quarter of 2008) requiring 2 ATC’s with hand-carved images. This is one of my efforts for January. The background is several layers/colors of acrylic paint, a collaged bit of sheet music, a hand-carved bird image and some pigma pen detailing. The toughest part was the lettering as I had intended to just print it on the painted backgrounds before cutting into cards but that didn’t quite work out. The ink from my inkjet bled and the laser wouldn’t adhere because the painted background was too thick to allow it to heat through. So I ended up carving a stamp with these teeny-tiny little letters…grrrrrr…

I’m thinking this might be first in a series, with February and March being *love* and *dance.* We’ll see…
